Courses

Most courses at IST Austria are open to PhD students, postdocs, technicians, interns, and staff members. External participants can also attend courses at IST Austria, currently free of charge. Please note that IST Austria PhD students will be given priority in case the number of places on a course is limited.

Course registration

If you would like to take courses at IST Austria, you need to register by using the links below.

If you are an external member, you will need to check with the registrar of your university if those credits can be transferred towards your degree. Once registered, you will be able to print a confirmation for the courses you have completed.

Courses held in the following academic year are published in August. Additional courses may be added later on, so it is worth checking for updates. Registration opens mid-September.

With a few exceptions, the courses listed here take place on the IST Austria campus in Klosterneuburg, Austria, and do not accommodate remote participation or distance/e-learning.

Course websites

The course websites are maintained in Moodle. The course website archive (courses held before 2018) is accessible at: https://courses.app.ist.ac.at/.

By default, course websites are accessible only for people who have registered for the respective course or assigned to it as instructor.


Cooperations

IST Austria maintains cooperations with the University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology with the goal to promote participation of students in courses and seminars of the respective other institution.

Students need to enquire with their respective home institution whether externally obtained ECTS credits can be recognized and counted towards their program requirements.

For external students wanting to take courses at IST Austria

All courses and lectures at IST Austria are published in the Course List section above. To take part in any of them, please see the instructions in the Course Registration section above. Please note that you need to register at least two weeks before the course start date. The Graduate School Office will then get back to you with further details.

Teaching a course at IST Austria

Faculty, postdocs, advanced PhD students and staff members are eligible to teach courses at IST Austria. If you are interested in teaching a course, you will usually need to submit a course proposal for approval by the PhD program committee by May preceding the academic year in which you would like to teach, although for certain courses out-of-cycle proposals will also be considered. New ideas and suggestions are always welcome. Course/Teaching evaluation info can be found on the Student Resources page (only accessible to IST users).
